How to practice Triangle Pose

  1. Take a wide stance with the front toes forward and back toes slightly inward.
  2. Extend the arms and reach the front hand forward.
  3. Lower the front hand to the shin, a block or the floor.
  4. Reach the top arm upward while lengthening both sides of the waist.

Practice tips

  • Use a block to keep the torso spacious.
  • Keep a micro-bend in the front knee.
Practice note: Look down or forward if turning the head upward affects balance or the neck.

Understanding Triangle Pose

Triangle Pose is categorized as a beginner standing pose with an emphasis on Hamstrings and side body. The useful version of the pose is the one that allows steady breathing and controlled movement—not necessarily the deepest expression.

Common practice points

  • Distribute pressure across the heel, big-toe mound and little-toe mound.
  • Keep the standing leg active without locking the knee.
  • Shorten or widen the stance when balance or alignment becomes strained.

Prepare and progress

Review the steps before entering the pose, use the suggested modifications early, and leave enough energy for a controlled exit.

Useful preparations

Progress is not measured by how closely a pose matches a photograph. Comfort, breathing and control are more useful guides.
